As Summer still heats us up, were at it’s last month awaiting all those Autumn planned weddings.. These are just a few more of our favourites from the timeless design of Dior 1963, the 1940’s style cocktail hat as an added accessory, for an stylish and elegant vintage look, like this 1940’s embellished Gwendolynne dress featured on our Pinterest page. Or the pure romance of a blousson sleeve, feaured in our last image, why not think outside the marshmellow. x
lets start with a drink at sunset…taros cafe. this bar/ restaurant has a perfect view of the harbour and the atlantic ocean..for a sunset drink and some people watching. its all white and blue with open areas for drinks and dinner then there is a dj area in a covered lounge area for later.
the most amazing italian restaurant that is up a couple of flights of stairs Silvestro on Rue Laaiouj … it has the most fabulous floral wallpaper in the two dinning areas and feels a bit like visiting someones home .they are italian and live half the year in milan and half in essouria…great selection of french and italian wines and the food it perfect!
if you go through the harbour and out to the beach side which outside the old medina there le chalet de la plage since 1965 mediterrean fish restaurant cuisine a true landmark. the terrace is above the sand and when the tide is in its above water. the owner is there and he’s the most gracious host who has a word with every table.
for a quick authentic lunch you can go to the fish&spice market in Souk Jedid pick a fish and then go to the veg shops to collect some supplies and take them to a little shop with a bbq area..its on Avenue Zerktouni opposite the mosoque. its basic but they create something simple and good out of your choice. the eating area is in a little square and you hand
talk a walk along the beach to the very end of the broad walk to Ocean Vagabond owned by a french surfer…you can take lessons , hire boards or windsurf…they have a great shop and their surf t.shirts are very cool. outside they have tables amongst the trees and an area to hangout or sunbath on lounge-beds whilst checking the waves or even decide to go for a camel ride….
ok so i have to mention a few shops…..the souk has everything that you did not buy in marrakesh and more, the wood from the area has been made into beautiful boxes… try ??? under the ramparts.
argan oil…in beautiful packaging near taros bar.
homewares try Cote Orienetal on Rue Sqala slippers in pistachio lined in the softest lambskin , cutlery with striped enamel handles and linen napery with colourful tassels. mmmm well thats what i bought!this is the street to follow for interesting edited selection of shops.
for beautiful traditional ceramics designs and the modernist versions in porcelain, divine canisters of tea and herbs all beautifully styled go to Le Coin des Saveurs on rue Mohamed Ben Messaoud next door there is a lifestyle shop that has a real eclectic mix of local and moroc designer fashion and jewellery. next door to this is a hotel…in fact this little street is rather chic.
the other thing you will see apart from thousands of cats is some very interesting art in galleries and also local artist just selling the paintings by a wall….we stayed at Riad Watier on Rue Ceuta and they have the most interesting collection of art…some is available for sale…i’m still thinking of a couple of pictures that i would like to ship back home
i would of loved to stayed longer or i would like to go back!
