A little rain was not going to ruin Haili & Cohen’s magical day… Read their love story below.
Tell us your love story, how did you both meet?
Haili: I have to say how we met isn’t the most romantic story in the world but nothing’s really romantic when you’re 21 right? We have both lived in the same smallish Northern Rivers town on and off our entire lives. We shared a few friends but had never actually met each other, until one night we locked eyes down at the local pub. Both too nervous to actually speak to one another, we ended up getting to know each other via social media! We sent messages every day for a good few weeks until Cohen finally asked me if I wanted to go out for ice cream; we ended up at McDonald’s haha. We’ve since grown up together and built our shared dreams over the past amazing 10 years!
How did the proposal happen?
Cohen: The proposal was a long time coming! It was just before our 9 year anniversary and we had planned a small getaway to the Whitsundays. Haili has forever tried to drag me out of bed to capture a sunrise in different locations, so it was only fitting that the special moment I proposed would include one of the other loves of her life. We set off before first light in the morning from our hotel room on a bush walk to a summit overlooking the archipelago of islands stretching across the Whitsundays. The proposal almost didn’t happen due to another bushwalker having an array of cameras and tripods already set up. With a little persuasion, I dragged Hail’s away to a quiet spot with a view to die for. The nervous wait for the sun to rise was unbearable, the suspense almost killed me! As the sun peered over the ocean hundreds of tiny shadowed islands seemed as though they were popping up out of the water all around us!! The sun was burnt orange, not a cloud in the Sky.
How did you choose byronviewfarm as the venue for your special day?
Haili: I mean who wouldn’t choose byronviewfarm? Cohen was born in Byron Bay and I was born in Lismore so we’ve spent our entire lives in this area. We are both very outdoorsy people so we needed somewhere you felt like you could see for days and touch the sky.
Cohen grew up on a farm and I’m a sunrise and sunset type of girl, so the quaint little white farmhouse perched high on a hill in the Byron hinterland that is touched by the sun from dawn until dusk was never not an option! It had our names all over it. And Bobby (the byronviewfarm resident Border Collie), well he just sealed the deal.
What style were you striving for with your ceremony, table settings and florals? Was there a certain look or vibe that you wanted to create?
Haili: Cohen and I find beauty in everything natural so we really wanted the natural outdoors to be our styling. We had dreamt of dining under the light of the stars, on two super long family banquet style tables with an amazing sunset visible from every seat. Unfortunately, the weather decided a different plan for us. Luckily all the natural textured elements we had chosen for our outdoor styling worked even better on the beautiful cottage veranda. We tried to incorporate as many natural textures as possible whilst adding a bit of glam with the pops of brass.
The raw linen pouches with hand-calligraphed feathers that were used as place cards sat perfectly on the stoneware plates. We chose glistening gold cutlery, raffia placemats and brass vases filled with maroon and silver green natives to add a bit of a wow factor. The amazing foliage hanging from the rafters with glowing edison bulbs peeking through and the scattered hurricane candles created warmth and a cosy vibe to the veranda.
Overall, what was your most favourite part of your wedding day?
Cohen: There where so many special moments throughout the day it would be impossible to single one out. From the look and laughs on Haili’s face as I said my vows, to seeing her share a dance with her 95 year old grandmother. But I think if we had to pick a point in time, it would have to be at the end of the night when everyone had left; it was silent and Hail’s and I sat on the bed in the byronviewfarm cottage, shared a drink and read the beautiful messages and well wishes our guests had written in their cards and reflected on the amazing day we had.
Were there any suppliers that you particularly loved working with and why?
Haili: We loved each and every one of our wedding vendors. Our team was amazing! I’m a micro-manager and a little picky, they dealt with all my request to the best of their ability, went out of their way to find what I was asking for and pulled off an amazing wedding
